|
Introduction These two brothers, Tomas and Cyril Palkovič, were born in Kuty, Slovakia. On 1907, when Thomas immigrated to the United States, Slovakia was part of Austria-Hungary. Cyril did not leave his homeland. The families communicated by mail, but the brothers never saw each other again. Thomas married Josephine Vavra. Their children are Joseph, Rose, Marie, Francis, Genevieve, Mildred, and Theodore. Cyril married Johana Valachovič. Their children are: Anton, Anka, Pauldina, Francis, and Pavol. In 1984, a grandson of Thomas, who was also called Thomas Palkovic, set out to find his Slovak family. He made a trip to Kúty, Czechoslovakia, a communist country behind the Iron Curtain. He met Pavol Palkovič, the youngest son of Cyril. Thomas did not speak Slovak, but Pavol did speak English. After almost 80 years, the families were reunited again. What a happy time that was! |
Johana Valachovic. Ich det'mi sú: Anton, Anka, Pauldina, Francis, and Pavol. |
| As time goes on, we hope to develop
bilingual stories of these two Palkovic families. We welcome stories
from both and encourage you to write in your own language--English or
Slovak. We will look for people who can translate for us. Please email us with your information. |
Dúfame,že postupne objavíme, príbehy týchto dvoch rodín Palkovičových v oboch
jazykoch. Vítame príbehy z oboch strán a budeme radi ak nám napíšete
vo vašom rodnom jazyku –angličtine, alebo slovenčine. Budeme hľadať ľudí,
ktorí to pre nás preložia. |
